Building a custom home, especially from a distance, can be a daunting task. However, homeowner Bill Sokolis, a builder himself from Chicago, found a partner in Living Stone that transformed his vision into reality.
“Being a builder, I knew a lot of the nuances or the little chinks in the armor you could have with subcontractors and materials,” Bill reflects. “Some of the things I found when I interviewed Living Stone were that they had systems in place similar to what we use in Chicago to eliminate problem areas, such as taking pictures every day to document production.”
With a sophisticated computer program that provides daily updates, Bill felt confident and informed throughout the building process. “I could rest easy knowing that while I’m sitting at my desk in Chicago, the house is going up the way we would like,” he adds, emphasizing the importance of communication in creating a successful partnership.
Designed to Enhance Daily Living
In the mornings, Bill and his family enjoy stunning mountain views from their master bedroom. Laura from ID.ology helped ensure they would have this experience. “Originally, the house’s position was different, and we probably would have missed those views. Laura literally turned the house to capture the most amazing views. Every morning, I get to see the mountains.”
Living Stone also focuses on functional design. Our “Aging in Place” concept means the home is easy to navigate. Bill mentions the walk-through shower and the layout that has no trip hazards. “I was fascinated by how they considered these needs,” he notes.

One of the standout features of this home is the breathtaking open staircase, designed to appear as if it’s floating. “It’s probably my favorite staircase in any home I’ve had, and I’ve had plenty of them,” he shares with enthusiasm. This artistic element not only serves as a focal point but also enhances the home’s airy ambiance.

After moving into their new residence, Bill and his family have found peace and satisfaction in their choice to work with Living Stone. “We love the home.
